Timber Legality Traceability Verification is the internationally recognized standard by which timber exporters can prove their products are compliant with importers demands.

The Standard covers the 9 Principles and 32 Criteria of Timber Legality and Traceability Verification which forms the basis for

• Development of a regional standard
• Certification assessment
• Surveillance assessment

The 9 Principles are:

• The company is authorized to conduct business in accordance with company laws and other legal requirements of the country where it operates
• The company has the necessary approvals or authorizations to conduct the relevant forestry related activities at the locations under verification
• The company respects its social obligations towards local communities, workers and its contractors
• The company complies with its environmental obligations as imposed by laws, regulations and other relevant national and international environmental requirements
• The company adheres to regulations of forest declarations and taxes
• The company complies with forest harvesting regulations
• The company complies with processing, transport and trade regulations
• The company maintains the necessary registers
• The company has management and chain-of-custody monitoring systems in place which ensure adequate control and traceability of its production

SGS Switzerland have audited PNG Forest Products on behalf of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for chain-of-custody compliance and Forest Management Certification. As a result of this audit, our export timber products all carry certification marks identifying these products as containing wood from well managed forests and controlled sources in accordance with the FSC Principles and Criteria for Forest Management and Chain Of Custody Verification.
